BLUEGRASS
Virginia-based singer & guitarist Junior Sisk has apparently left behind his long-time band, Rambler’s Choice, and assembled a new group comprising guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and bass (the typical BG lineup). This album’s ten tracks provide a nice variety of material. Notable guests sing tracks #2 and #6; bandmate Heather Berry Mabe sings lead on track #5; I believe Junior sings lead on all other tracks.
FCC clean
1 * mid-tempo. a sweet & grateful love song (3:34)
2 * mid-tempo. Dan Tyminski (Allison Krauss & Union Station) sings an old Roger Miller tune - it’s more honky tonk than bluegrass - about a man whose woman has left him (2:54)
3 * mid-fast. cheerful & uplifting country gospel about redemption (2:22)
4 mid-tempo. maudlin Rodney Crowell song (also the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) reminiscing about growing up poor - daddy working hard, mama reading the Bible (3:43)
5 mid-fast. Female lead vocalist can’t wait to get home to Kentucky. Straight country (3:05)
6 mid-slow. Ricky Skaggs sits in on a Stanley Brothers tune about mother’s passing (3:23)
7 ** mid-fast. bright sounding breakup song with good singing & good playing (3:43)
8 ** mid-slow. country gospel ballad about keeping hope w lovely harmony singing (3:23)
9 ** slow. sad breakup song (with a grudge) sung very nicely (3:04)
10 fast. high-energy bluegrass number with some impressive picking (2:55)
