WTF gurgling, squeaking, swishing, clicking, squalling mouth orchestras. This is a concept album that only utilizes multi-tracked body sounds. The pieces can be layered on other recordings and it reminds me of why I miss Brick, Kremit, and Big Chief’s shows. Gayle is a seasoned musician who sometimes still collaborates in “conventional music” groups. Think of the sound effects record, Wind Swept Planes, Abode, passing gas, hums and drones dissolving and flickering. A grueling listen but I’m so glad it exists and KZSU has it. No FCCs or anything sexual, but lots of uncomfortable sounds. Abridged track by track follows, but you can’t go wrong with any track. 3. Minimal, lots of open space. (3:59) 4. Rocko’s Modern Life surreal “singing.” (6:12) 7. Creaking door discomfort. (3:54) 8. Gibberish-speaking crowd. (3:19) 11. Gross-out crude sounds with didgeridoo. (6:58) 12. inhale/exhale. (2:07) 13. Special Olympics opera. (3:04) 15. Childish yelps and vibrating vocal drone/hum. (5:45) |
