The late Canadian folk singer/songwriter was something of a Canadian national treasure when he died in 1983. This CD celebrates his relaxed Cape Breton style, it’s a newly re-mastered redo of his first album and features his comfy-as-an-old-slipper voice and solid playing from the band. Lots of story songs, great stuff. No FCCs but #5 does have a few god damns.

*1. Fast fiddling, a fun and furious toe-tapper. Yay!
2. Slow and relaxed love song. A warm and sweet sound.
*3. Uptempo Celtic-meets-the Maritimes folk ode.
4. Downtempo ballad of a woman waiting for her sailor.
*5. A capella seafaring tune for solo voice & chorus. Midtempo.
6. Slow and sad maritime ode. Gentle, soft, and full of nostalgia.
7. Relaxed folk ballad w/lots of emotion and passion.
8. Slow and nostalgic remembrance of a life gone by.
9. Bright and lively Celtic-infused instrumental hornpipe..
*10. Fast and energetic maritime song w/wonderful strings.
11. Slow folk waltz w/a fragile, old-time quality.
12. Spoken word track about men out of work, leads right into #13
13. Quiet instrumental reprise of track #7. Long fade at end.
