Phillip Bader: Wishful Thinking Label: Highgrade
Very listenable electronica from Phillip Bader, that blends assorted styles such as downtempo, ambient, minimal techno, and stripped-down house. This stuff skews towards the "gets-in-your-head" ambient/experimental textured synths, spacey and out there, and very little of the standard funk & groove you'd hear in house (i.e. not a lot of catchy basslines). Samples are thrown in there at various points, along with synth tones that are occasionally goofy, but mostly atmospheric. The ballads are actually quite nice. Try: 2,3,4,8,9.
1. creepy electronics, whispered voices
2. chill house beat, whispers, sci-fi ambience, words in Japanese, assorted tones & effects
3. techier, slightly comical & goofy effects, big cymbal crashes, all sorts of electronic noodling
4. slow & chill downtempo ballad, sensual fem vocals
5. stripped-down house with nice glassy tones, echoing vocals, druggy
6. moody atmospheric house, gentle synth washes, very chill track
7. snappy beats, cheery uplifting synth tones, a bit New Wave-y in its approach
8. a downtempo pop ballad that sounds a bit Bjork-ish
9. cool stripped-down house that has a nice plucked-bass loop to it
10. stripped-down electro that's kinda cool, snappy beats, spacey male vocal
11. atmospheric minimal techno with an occasional male vocal urging "fly with me"
12. ballad, female vox, very sparse, slow, quiet tones
