Stripped down dark hollow songs that this band trademarked back when Reagan was still president. Everything they do sounds like it was recorded in an old empty church – like their debut/masterpiece The Trinity Sessions. This band was a progenitor of “alt.country”, mopey sadcore typified by David Lynch, Nick Cave and all things 4AD, with the crooning sentiments of Patsy Cline, Tom Waits. After all these years its nice to hear them return to their perfect roots, especially after riding the pop/AAA train to the bank throughout the 90’s. For fans of Red House Painters, Ana Calvi, kd lang.
