Bahamas is a pseudonym for singer, songwriter, guitarist Afie Jurvanen from Toronto. He plays both acoustic & electric guitars, occasionally with a lot of reverb or fuzz, but always fairly gently. Songs are sometimes folkie, sometimes soft rock. He’s backed mainly just by bass and drums, with a couple female harmony singers on a few tracks.
No FCC issues.
** Slow. Spare, folkie verses; soaring, melodic chorus. Female harmony is airy & light. (3:57)
* Mid-tempo. Happy, light pop. Vocal a bit like Jack Johnson. Bell-like & reverbed guitar. (3:00)
Very slow, very spare. Pleading, broken-hearted love song. Bit of drums with brushes. (2:41)
Mid-tempo. Bright sounding telling-her-off song. Good guitar work. (2:58)
Slow. Jangly guitar strumming. Dreadfully depressed & depressing vocal. (4:31)
* Very slow. Starts simply, then adds layers. Quite beautiful in its loneliness & starkness. (4:26)
* Mid-slow. Ironic, cute love song. Harry Nilsson-like voice, slightly twangy guitar. (2:47)
Mid-tempo. Cutesy love song to pregnant wife. Breathy singing. Acoustic guitar picking. (1:03)
Very slow. Miserable, down-and-out, pining for his girl. (3:01)
** Slow, sad intro. Then mid-tempo soft-rock with twangy guitars & good female harmony. (3:53)
Slow. Good acoustic guitar. Breathy singing. Underwhelming. (3:12)
* Slow. Another sad love song. Sung falsetto. Nicely layered guitars & piano. (3:47)
