TOM JONES

Jack White produces Tom Jones. It's all of the good Tom Jones (debauched backing brass, possessed inhuman lounge vocalese), and none of the bad stuff (the softy softy part). Lounge meets voodoo/bayou meets a tortured soul. No FCCs.

1. (4:37) ********* TOM JONES IS A GHOUL. With spare brass in skeletal pattern at back. This is pure lounge psychopath stuff. Glittering guitars, swampy mood. There's nothing not to like here. IT'S A FAKE FADE-OUT! He's back! You totally fell for it!
2. (3:22) ****** Fragile steel guitar, leafy and green. Tom Jones as troubadour, but sudden hilarious loudness. JEZEBEL, IT WAS YOU! Mariachi-groove, and Tom Jones does his crazy thing. A ton of instruments join in, it's baroque and overwrought, but beautiful and unmuddied. A tour de force!
