Heat by Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles
Label: Redeye
Released: May 29, 2012
The fourth full-length album from this Minnesota indie folk/rock sextet. Many upbeat tunes filled with nice melodies/smooth female vocals, sweet sounding guitar, steady head-bobbing drum beats, and generally nostalgic folksy tunes. No FCCs. - Sonja L, 2/7/13
1. (2:55) Just A Kid - Upbeat folk/rock tune with sweet lyrics. A nice twangy guitar riff thrown in. Lead vocalist has smooth but strong voice.
2. (4:02) West - Slower indie rock tune with steady drum beat and soulful, body-swaying vocals.
3. (3:20) Undone - Very upbeat, folksy tune with strong, almost aggressive lyrics/vocals.
4. (4:07) Million Things - Slow, nostalgic song with nice strings and ghostly chanting in background.
5. (3:41) Catacombs - Solid indie rock tune with background accordion that gives the track a polka feel.
6. (3:29) Summer Beach - Opens with nice bass solo, soon followed by drums and nice lilting guitar. More strings in this track. Nostalgic lyrics but overall happy, sweet tune.
7. (2:07) Puget Sound - Plucking guitar, more sweet nostalgic lyrics and soft, sweeping lyrics.
8. (2:03) Wise Eyes - Upbeat track with really nice melody and simple lyrics. Definitely an album standout.
9. (3:53) Oh Home - More of the folk side of the album. Slow tune with accordion and nice harmonies towards the end of the track.
10. (3:47) Strange Love - Slow acoustic track with low backing cello. Nice ghostly male backup towards end, as well as sparse heavy drum beats.
11. (3:39) Hold My Breath (Bonus Track) - Simple guitar lyrics, with more sweet lyrics, cello, and a light echoing effect that makes this track especially heartwarming.
