Recorded in 1965 by Bill Koon (who also wrote the great liner notes), Eddie Lee Jones played some solid trance blues w/ folk, spiritual, country elements. Koon happened upon Jones by accident and decided to record him. Good thing. This is some very historical stuff, stuff you could only find in the outskirts back in the day on a porch. The songs feature just Jones and his slide guitar, but with some embellishments by his wife and family helping out on vocals and percussion, by way of claps and handslaps. Strong performance by Jones, of which little is known. No FCC’s.

*My Favorites*: Play ‘em all.

Side One
1. Mid. Ominous vibe, steady beat, ethereal slide.
2. Mid. ‘Baby, Please Don’t Go’, done by everyone. Nice version.
3. Mid / Fast. Trance stylings w/ backing vocal. Urgent and driving.
4. Mid. Folksy with backing vocals, handslaps.
5. Mid. Upbeat, great guitar.
6. Mid. INSTRUMENTAL w/ some chatter at the start. Killer slide.
7. Mid. A bit haunting w/ trance elements.
8. Mid. Catchy w/ big vocal support, plodding guitar.

Side Two
9. Mid. Steady beat, trance-y, porch feel w/ chatter in background.
10. Mid. Classic ‘John Henry’. Great slide w/ backing vocals. Solid.
11. Mid. Dire, ominous vibe. Nice guitar.
12. Mid. Upbeat feel, porch song, great guitar.
13. Mid. ‘Keep Your Lamp Trimmed And Burning’. Great slide. Nice.
14. Mid. INSTRUMENTAL. Haunting as hell w/ trance slide. Killer.
15. Mid. Plodding guitar w/ solid slide and backing vocals.
16. Mid. Driving country-tinged song w/ foot stomps, chatter.
