Artist: Black Taxi Album: We Don't Know Any Better Reviewed 9/24'12 by Rex Genre: Alternative/Indie rock, Garage rock revival RIYL: The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, Talking Heads, Coldplay A New York City based indie rock band, featuring Ezra Huleatt’s Julian-Casablancas-like vocal and street-smart style. Reminds me of The Strokes. Additional trumpet sometimes lights up the songs. Brilliant. FCC: 11 *1. Tightrope (3.06)- middle/fast-paced, male vocal, brightful guitar lines, walk down the alley in the afternoon, slippery sound effects, stops suddenly at the end 2. We Don’t Know Any Better (2.57)- energetic/aggressive starts off, fast-paced, rebellion-driven, nervy *3. Hand (3.39)- arpeggiation starts up, duo male vocals, slightly Strokes feeling, additional trumpet *4. Becoming (3.18)- celebratory, choir, visceral, cheerful feeling *5. Friend (4.09)- urban, cheerful, street-smart style, hanging out, good rhythm *6. Vultures (3.48)- reminiscent, regretful, exuberant+bittersweet *7. Do What You Gotta Do (3.56)- rebellious, urgent, swaggering, sharp, brillliant 8. We’ll Take Another (3.02)- people chatting starts off, energetic, rousing, dark night walk, menacing 9. Balloons On Barbed Wire (2.48)- bouncy, bright, freewheeling, stylish, world-weary vocals, spiky guitars 10. Holding On To Nothing (4.10)- melancholic, young, jaded, yearning, rebirth, weird witchcraft effects around 2:40, slowly fades out ten sec. earlier (FCC)11. Politics (3.08)- slow/mid-tempo, brash, urgent 12. Tell Me What You Need (3.04)- reminiscent, day driving, freedom, nostalgia 13. Hope I Never Know (3.16)- reminiscent, road trip, rural, relaxing |
