Central Living is guitarist Steve Gunn and noise artist Manuel Padding, and they’ve concocted some tripped-out folk psychedelia for their first release. Gunn’s work as a solo artist and in the Gunn-Truscinski Duo won’t quite prepare the listeners for this sonic journey—his trance-inducing modal meanderings in exotic tunings are layered over Padding’s sparse electronic soundscapes, hovering in a dark spiritual ether, defying structural convention on these elongated jams. Play either of these tracks and discover the meaning of the universe.

1. (19:25) Rootsy raga groove, rumbling and rolling with some electric guitar accompaniment; noise eventually finds its way in, things mellow out and there’s a great sense of controlled chaos.
2. (20:45) Placid, gentle melodic ruminations, hovers and rises on some blurred, mysterious crescendos but remains foggy and abstract throughout.
