HARRIS EISENSTADT: Canada Day III Songlines, 2012 POSTMODERN JAZZ – Drummer Eisenstadt’s Canada Day group has two new releases out this summer: this one features the group’s usual quintet configuration, while the other is an octet. The sound here is really marvelous: the band has such an easy affinity, such a cohesive sound, that it almost masks the unusual lopsided quality of the tunes. There are a few brief “out” flashes, but the group mostly stays in a space just a few degrees to the left of normal jazz, teasingly different.
