Deep-sea relaxation. Mysterious producer Mmoths constructs an underwater summer fantasy with layers of circulating synths, heavy drums, and echoing claps and cymbals. The opening “Thx” forces us into a sun-drenched stupor, building into a tranquil vacation state during the following tracks and “Breaking Through” into a chill oriental party. This album is a daydream. If you need a vacation, but don’t have the cash then give this a listen. Highlights: every song! But especially 1 & 3. No FCCs. 1. “Thx”: Waves on waves of synths and swallowing bass with slow kicks. Get swept out to sea. 2. “Summer”: Nod your head to the popping of tangling synths among an atmosphere of textured voices. 3. “If Only”: Synth bird songs and ghostly choral voices accompanied by booming bass and electric piano. Gets grooving but makes you want to stop moving. 4. “Heart”: Keep Shelly in Athens provides simple vocals along side the minimal drums, bottomless bass, repetitive Wurlitzer and choral voices. Drift off to sleep. 5. “Breaking Through”: Wake up. China cymbals start harsh and then mix with synths, heavy kick and descending piano to generate a peaceful, nostalgic feel. 6. “Heart (Radio Edit)”: Less of a build, but retains the sleepy texture of original cut. 7. “Summer (Radio Edit)”: No noticeable difference from original cut. | ||

Mmoths S/T Synergy Music reviewed by Underbelly Irish artist and electronic producer Mmoths comes out with his latest EP consisting of forward thinking and cutting edge electronic music. Think M83, Nosaj Thing, and Shlohmo. FCC Clean 1: Ambient opener. Cool pumping synths with some sparse echo-y drum hits. Faint human wailing drenched in reverb. Lush, expansive. *2. Somber staccato synths dripping reverb. Slow, pumping drums. Definitely hearing the Shlohmo influence here. Mmm nice female vocalist here too. Who's this male vocalist weirdo? He's unnecessary. 3. Syncopated electro drums with more human wailing. Descending synth line. This track doesn't have a whole lot of substance. Pass it. 4. Rain, rain, and oft-repeating glitched synths. Female vocalist is back, though! Drags on a bit. OK noise. 5. Japanese shrine bells loop with breathing synths on top. Interesting groove, nice wooshing crashes. Synth fart outro. 6. Shorter version of Track 4. 7. Shorter version of Track 2. |
