Peja: No Feelings EP Label: Hidden Recordings

Without a doubt, this is some of the most relentless and hard-hitting techno that I've ever heard - in the style of Cari Lekebusch, Brendan Moeller, and The Advent. Peja takes no prisoners. However, amidst the pounding beats there's a lot of thought behind it, in the timing of breaks, and in the use of effects to build up the tension. The track that demonstrates Peja's style best is #1 (No Feelings). #4 (Test Dummy) is somehow funky, while #3 (White Peony) is just straight-up power. Those are my three picks on this EP.

1. (No Feelings) Monstrous. Thumping crushing beats, a metallic tone - sheer power-techno. Nervy effects build up the tension while swirling breakdowns allow for a breather.
2. (No Feelings remix) Classic techno with a melodic sort of tone that comes in & out, and a drone that features prominently during the buildup sections.
3. (White Peony) A techno pounder and that's basically it, not much added to it to throw you off. The kicks and rolling bass just keep coming at you. Crisp breaks. The focus is on banging the dancefloor.
4. (Test Dummy) This is probably the "funkiest" track here; is it possible for crushing techno to be kind of funky? I'd say so. The sequencing, bassline, and breaks are more in the style of funky-house - but rest assured, this is great techno with a groove.
