Traditional Irish folk songs and dances. Mary Jane Lamond sings in Gaelic (and plays accordion on a few tracks). Wendy MacIsaac plays fiddle, mandolin, and occasional piano. Other players provide guitars, pianos, bass, banjo, traditional drumming, etc.
No FCC issues.
Folk songs with Mary Jane Lamond, lead vocal
2 * Mid-slow ballad. Misty-eyed melody. Lovely graceful accompaniment. (4:55)
3 Mid-tempo. Lead & backing vox. Acoustic guitar, mandolin. (4:28)
5 * Mid-slow. A cappella. Solo voice sings 2 lines; 2nd voice joins for 2-line refrain. Repeat over and over. Lovely but spare. (3:22)
7 ** Mid-tempo. Earnest. Just voice & acoustic guitar, then a second voice, then a piano, then mandolin. Keeps getting better. (4:26)
9 Slow. Single voice accompanied by piano and a faint cello. (4:32)
11 Slow. 1-voice verses, 2-voice choruses with a “We Are The World” sweet quality. (6:19)
12 * Slow to start. Just voice & drum; add guitar (a bit faster); add violin (yet faster); add banjo & a second voice. (3:29)
Instrumentals
1 ** Fast. Medley of folk dances led by brilliant violin, accompanied by acoustic guitar, etc. Bright, exuberant, joyful. (4:19)
4 *** Mid-fast. Tour de force. Killer violin (reminded me of Regina Carter): pan-world melodies and complex, syncopated rhythms. Backed by acoustic guitar, elec bass, drums. Fascinating. Play this on folk, world, jazz, or instrumental shows. (3:03)
6 * Mid-tempo dance. Led by violin; pushed forward by eager piano. (5:49)
8 Mid-slow. A simple folk melody on wooden flute and violin. (5:21)
10 * Very fast. Violin, guitar, mandolin, accordion, bass. (3:13)
No FCC issues.
