Minimal, dreamy cello pop. This is the first album from Saltland, a project by Montreal-based cellist Rebecca Foon, formerly of Thee Silver Mt. Zion. Multiple layers of cello, some light drums, and dreamy vocals create a minimal, sometimes poppy sound. The first song, in particular, could be at the beginning of a movie, or background music in Sim City. Overall, it’s a clean, dreamy aesthetic but the songs start to sound pretty similar by the middle of the album. FCC clean.

*1. (4:24) Rythmic, cinematic intro eventually followed by layers of vocals and cello
2. (2:57) Instrumental, a slow, building string section forms the background to eventual electric cello riffing and some drumming
3. (6:17) Light percussion sets a consistent, walking pace; calm, dreamy vocals
4. (4:53) Vocal line is more dominant; light but quick drumming creates a sense of urgency
5. (5:39) Atmospheric (no other word to describe it) introduction, repetitive cello progressions and light vocals but no lyrics
6. (5:01) Steady percussion and vocals punctuated by multi-part harmonies and some pleasing dissonance
7. (4:07) Cello noise with vocal melodic line, feels exploratory and aimless
8. (5:14) Another plodding cello baseline with some harmonic, dreamy vocal sections
