Afro-garage-rock from Nigeria, 1974. Bits of psych, bits of traditional West African sounds. Don’t expect loud and frantic, except for the bits of fuzz guitar. Mostly quite sweet and DIY sounding. FCCs? Nothing in English.
1. 5:04 ***exuberant hand drums, funky guitar, a bit of a highlife feel. GNARLY guitar solos.
2. 2:43 **trad sounding, apart from the grotty fuzzy guitar and maybe the bits of falsetto vocals.
3. 2:55 ***sweet chanting, rather gnawa-eque hand percussion, and nutty fuzz-psych guitars. Crazy!
4. 3:28 (track appears to have issues – rather mellow and trad, but cuts out after a few seconds)
5. 2:38 **mellow and sweet swaying acoustic guitar, pretty hippie-ish flute.
6. 3:38 ****cowbell, funky makossa vocals and percussion, grotty fuzz guitar. Yikes!
7. 2:52 **nice call and response vocals, midtempo.
8. 3:29 **mellow and swingy guitars, trap drum, cool vocals.
9. 3:29 ****Bluesy and Santana-esque instrumental. Anthemic, almost.
10. 2:10 ***very pretty and complex acoustic guitar solo – very different from the fuzzy stuff, very trad sound from the Sahel. Very pretty solo vocals, too.
