Here's the review:
Pop from the iconic 80s glasgow pop/rock/punk band. Slow Summits is graceful, gentle, dreamy; like a slightly more twee version of Illumination. Many songs are on the edge of being a ballad, but are also often lush and brightly nostalgic. A very restrained, mature, and pretty album. If you are a fan, you will love it for all its nostalgic modulations; if not, appreciate it for the above qualities.
Both female and male vocals. Stephen's voice is characteristically reverb-y. Katrina has replaced Aggi on vocals, but sounds every bit as good. Lots of mostly subtle flute, violin, and trumpet bits.
I like 3, 2, 1, 9
RIYL Orange Juice, Aztec Camera, Teenage Fanclub, K records, Sarah records, Creation records.
1.* 4:27. Gentle woodwind. Soft female vocals. Downtempo, dreamy, languid.
2.* 4:55. Stephen singing+female harmonizing. Flickering candle, nostalgia groove. Awesome mid tempo pop.
3.* 3:41. M + F duet, w/ layered f vocals. Relatively upbeat, subtly bright/optimistic pop. Infectious. The single.
4. 5:01. Stephen ballad. Midtempo. A sad summer walk around glasgow.
5. 2:49. Instrumental pianos and others. Pretty and slow; aching, somewhat lush. certainly worth a play.
6. 4:19. Female. slow, dramatic, violin solos. almost mellow 50s ballad?
7. 4:52. Introspective. Midtempo pop and rock. Classic pastels guitars. One of the
8. 6:26. Unfolding guitar jam with some synth blips and flute/trumpet. A few wordless vocals at the end. Pleasant.
9.* 2:42. Super twee midtempo pop. F vocals. A bit of soul. Restrained exuberance
