Sonny and the Sunsets, ninth album from SF folk/rock/pop artist. Pretty and approachable album. Synths in every track; wistful atmosphere. Most songs are narrative, about love, uncertainty, end of the world, etc. Not lo-fi stuff, lots of soaring synths and spoken word conversations. Good stuff that cuts across a range of indie rock, folk, 50s rock, indie pop, surf, post punk
I like 9, 11, 10, 7, 2, 6
FCC 3 and 5
1. 5:09 Bits of synth and prog; continuous slightly cloudy, synth-full beat; catchy, not overdone; reverby chill vocals
2. 3:47* Folk; narrative; a richer John Vanderslice? ; wistful, sunset feel; a bit of M+F dialogue in the middle
3. 3:11 FCC!!!!! "fucked up"; strummy beat, arching two note synths
4. 4:07 Acoustic mumbling, folk; melancholy; builds into a full swaying, sad campfire song
5. 3:25 FCC!!!!! "pussy"; surf-y guitar intro; cool mellowed-out 50s or 60s pop vocals; floating synth noodling
6. 3:36* grim droning synth; guitar blips; post-punk instrumentals; dylan-style inflected-talking vocals; restrained bowie?
7. 1:17* fast frentic guitar; could be punk intro if heavier; arpeggio synths give a western feel; could be a Thee Headcoats track?
8. 2:23 60s psych guitars; rock and roll vocals;
9. 2:17* start and stop surf; very poppy; "I see the void" with cool female backing vocals
10. 2:17* peppy; some high falsetto wordless vocals; outer space synth; exuberant; a bit of a tropical party feel
11. 4:22* chill guitars; spoken F + M conversation; song about being an alien; more dylan-esque vocals, like 6; super wistful, pretty outro synth; very dramatic and produced
I like 9, 11, 10, 7, 2, 6
