Instrumental, free chamber experimental, “contemporary classical.” McCann’s first new solo album since 2011's The Capital. It took 17 months to finish, combines composition and improv, and features a more acoustic set of instrumentation (violin, viola, cello, flute, piano, glockenspiel) and grand approach than McCann’s synth/tape/fuzz/effects/field recordings ambient/drone/folk/noise work. Meticulously multi-tracked. the sound here is orchestral, somber, soothing. It’s not classical - it’s dense, free, flighty, loose, there isn’t much repetition, and it’s ever-interested in texture. RIYL: Gavin Bryars, Brian McBride (of Stars of the Lid), Monopoly Child Star Searchers, McCann’s work with Matthew Sullivan, All brilliant. No FCCs.

1. Swirling, calming with resonating cellos, bowed loveliness. There’s a pause around 5:50 in before the second movement starts. (12:21)
*2. Shimmering, sprightly keys, percussion. (7:29)
*3. Some oddball coconut banging percussion before aching streaks of stringed, melodic beauty. (10:30)
4. Vocalist Kayla Cohen (Itasca) guests. McCann layers her voice to sound like a choir. Calming, subtle, aching. (8:23)
