This trio is the Gunn-Truscinski Duo with additional guitarist Cian Nugent (no relation to Ted, fortunately). For those unfamiliar with the duo, they effortlessly blend folk- rag, and rock into a unique and vibrant sound. Here that sound is more streamlined, less introspective and with a greater collective jam vibe. Crucial listening for fans of Fahey, William Tyler, Sun City Girls, and everything Steve Gunn related.

1. (12:07) A steadily marching, invigorating rocker. Midpaced grooving lays the backbone of a densely layered bluesy jam.
2. (15:27) Slow and chilled-out raga wanderings gradually build into a plodding, shimmering, meditation

Dust bowl instrumental psychedelic rock. Trio of Steve Gunn, John Truscinski and Cian Nugent formed after playing a bowling alley warmup gig before a festival performance in the in the UK. Nugent’s acoustic guitar takes the folk, improv, and blues-inflected Gunn-Truscinski duo closer to Takoma territory, drone, and adds another layer of hypnotism for the open highway. This is right up your alley. Also see Six Organs of Admittance, Sun City Girls, Chris Forsyth, Three Lobed Recordings.

*1. Mid-jaunt swaying, swinging desert trot, head-nod syncopated groove. (12:07)
2. “deconstructed raga” hesitant sprawl builds to ringing guitar layers with deep percussive thump. (15:27)
