Deep, dark lonely electronic stuff verging on drone but tempered with light industrial touches, like Throbbing Gristle playing at a jazz lounge with Brain Fruit. The solo project of DC area’s Chris Videll, his usual ambient explorations find a more complex expression here, layered with strange beats and loops. Made during “the long and strange winter of 2012-13,” the circumstances of which remain mysterious, “Insomnia” is one of the instruments he’s credited with in the liner notes, and it totally makes sense. This is a stark expression of frigid, nocturnal loneliness.

1. (4:11) dark clanging loops, eerie subterranean drones. A different mix of this track appears on District of Noise vol. 5, which I highly recommend if you dig this at all.
2. (5:30) blurred, wintry chords drifting in a somnambulant haze
3. (8:31)*** slow throbbing motorik beat over some dissonant, almost metallic drones
4. (5:09) gently unfolding electronic textures, buzzing plasma lights and humming refrigerators
5. (5:42)** sweet bouncy beat over some dark refrigerator buzzing and distant nostalgic chords
6. (5:29)* subtle droning noise, a gradual crescendo, like Sujo falling asleep
7. (4:55) cool syncopated beats over some light and dreamy harmonic textures
