Raw and stripped down. Elements of Blues, Country and Southern Rock. This album is on Jack White’s record label – and that makes a lot of sense. It sounds older than it is, like something that might have influenced the White Stripes and not the other way around. Lots of singing about trucks. Favorite tracks: 4, 9,11
Sounds like: ZZ Top, Black Keys, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Guitar solos sometimes sound White Stripes
1. 3:50 Starts with an engine turning over, classic southern rock guitar, stripped down, guitar and vocal mirroring in the chorus, cowbell, watch fake ending
2. 4:16 Fuzzed out guitar, steady 12 bar blues with slight variation, kicks in heavier halfway through, sweet simple guitar solo
3. 3:53 Short, quiet banjo intro, kicks in almost immediately with distorted guitars, nice groove, vocals more talking than singing (almost late Lou Reed)
4. 3:18 Softer instrumentation, deep and melodic vocals, tremolo style soloing throughout
5. 4:50 Deep bass plodding along, slow groove, guitar more ornamental, builds
6. 4:19 Soft, slow and more folk-y, female harmonies, simple but beautiful
7. 5:35 Starts with a drum fill and feedback, distorted guitar riff, tempo speeds up significantly towards the end of the song
8. 3:30 FCC ASS Starts with slide, upbeat, simple guitar solo in the middle, alternates frantic and busy and more subdued
9. 3:13 Slow banjo tune, melodic vocals, nice tambourine percussion
10. 5:09 Straight beat, repetitive guitar riff, slide ornamentation, distorted vocal break in the middle, guitar solo outro
11. 5:08 Alternates snazzy horn section and slow jam with organ background, going for some falsetto, female backing vocals
12. 0:49 Just engine/motor noise
