Mohamed Abozekry & HeeJaz [CHAOS] (Neonovo, 2013)

Virtuoso oudist Mohamed Abozekry leads this young (average age 26) Franco-Egyptian ensemble formed in 2010. Abozekry studied with Naseer Shamma at the Oriental Oud House in Cairo & received 1st prize for under-18s at the 2009 international Oud competition in Damascus. A fusion of Arab/flamenco/Roma/free jazz/blues/rock with rapidly shifting rhythms, styles, & harmonies composed by Abozekry & arranged by guitarist Guillaume Hogan. Other members: Anne Laure Bourget (percussion); Hugo Reydet (double bass). Album title refers to the 2011 upheavals in the Arab world.
