Album Review
The Grunt
Reviewed 2014-02-28
This album is fantastic! It's got a really great warm organic old-school sound in terms of riffs (which are a combination of death / black / and rock), with slightly more modern blackened vocals, and somehow it all sounds fucking fresh. Not a harsh album, VERY LISTENABLE. If you even kind-of like metal, you will like this. Play this and mention that it's released on Nuclear War Now! Productions.

1.) (3:28) Slow lightly-distorted guitars with military sounds in the background. Kind of chill, kind of post-metal.
2.) (3:59) + + Fuuuuuck yeah!!! Simple but totally rocking mid-tempo riff with deep growls. Really old-school sound.
3.) (6:05) + Starts ascending chord modes. Slows it down for an emotive-yet-still-metal extended guitar solo.
4.) (6:04) + + Slower, this one sounds sad. When was the last time you heard someone growl with emotion? Vaguely like older My Dying Bride / Tiamat.
5.) (4:37) Runs through lots of different sounds / feelings. One of the faster ones.
6.) (2:32) + Acoustic guitars with gruff / whispered war-themed vocals. RIYL Those Poor Bastards. I don't think "damn" is an FCC.
7.) (5:47) + + + Starts slow but then locks into the perfect groove!!!
8.) (5:12) + Good, but the warm organic sound is suppressed.
