Bryan Sutton “Into My Own” Label: Sugar Hill Records Joseph Reviewed 4/2/14 Good newgrass music from Sutton, 6-time International Bluegrass Music Association guitarist of the year. Sidemen include Sam Bush on mandolin, fiddler Stuart Duncan, and Noam Pikelny on banjo. 1 – (2:52) Cricket On The Hearth* Up-tempo instrumental, fine picking. 2 – (2:59) That’s Where I Belong* Mid, pretty vocals, fine. 3 – (4:13) Ole Blake Solid instrumental, mid-tempo, decent. 4 – (3:50) Anyhow, I Love You Slow ¾ time love lament, nice fiddle. 5 – (5:59) Cumberland Reel* Lovely extended instrumental, great playing. 6 – (2:57) Run Away* Nice old-timey sound w/frailed banjo backing. 7 – (5:36) Frissell’s Rag Unusual, muted ragtime guitar instrumental. 8 – (5:07) Overton Waltz* Pretty lilting ¾ time instrumental, nicely done. 9 – (3:20) Swannanoa Tunnel* Up-tempo traditional bluegrass, fine. 10 – (3:46) Watson’s Blues* Slow, deliberate and very bluesy. 11 – (4:34) Log Jam* Virtuoso playing on this mid-tempo instrumental. 12 – (3:49) Been All Around This World Folk tune, solo guitar backing. | ||
