Mungo’s Hifi vs. Prince Fatty Reviewed by Sadie O., 4/7/14 Electronic Roots Rock Reggae/Dancehall. Top British Reggae Producer and top Scottish soundsystem duet remix each other’s songs, featuring lots of their regular vocalists. It’s a good thing Great Britain is carrying the Roots banner, because Jamaica’s in a musical slump these days… No FCCs detected,,, 1. 4:00 ***highspeed toast, nice swingy dancehall bubble with several voices. 2. 3:57 **** fat and juicy midtempo skank with Horseman and Sugar Minott and lots of syndrum – special made to nice up de dancehall. 3. 4:00 ***sound collage, slightly uptempo bubble with lots of electronics and horns, quite pretty vocals by Soom T. 4. 3:55 ***very uptempo and bouncy skank, a bit ska, with horn section and dueling toasters. Nice. 5. 4:25 ****upbeat and slightly uptempo bouncy ska bubble with lots of talking in Italian, gruff dancehall toasting, and fine female singing. Great package! 6. 4:05 ***quite psychedelic intro, then uptempo grunty march, extremely sweet, high vocals by Hollie Cook. Fairly unique 7. 4:04 **downtempo electronic swingy rock steady. Pretty love song with bits of toasting and syndrum, but otherwise unremarkable. 8. 4:20 ****goofy midtempo bouncy skank, racetrack bugle, wild vocals by Horseman. 9. 3:46 ***sparse, boopy, midtempo electronic march. Wonderful ploppy noises, nursery rhyme tune, sweet vocals. 10. 4:14 ***very sparse jaunty midtempo dancehall with lovely vocal cover of Bei Mir Bist Du Scheine by Hollie Cook and toast by Horseman. | ||
