MC Dizzy Jackson
Reviewed 2014-05-15
New Orleans native w/ all those great down-south vibes of funk, jazz, blues w/ some touches of spiritual and gospel. Lots of horns, organ, bass, drums w/ great vocals. Ivan Neville, Anders Osborne guest, w/ an overlay of Mahalia Jackson’s vcl on #4. Fantastic stuff. No FCC’s.

*My Favorites*: 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10.

1. *(3:55) Mid. Mean vibe, heavy lyrics, stop/start phrasing.
2. (3:44) Slow / Mid. Mellow w/ organ, back vcls; heavenly.
3. *(5:28) Mid. Funky struttin’ riffin’.
4. *(3:33) Mid. Classic spiritual song w/ Mahalia Jackson vcls.
5. (3:20) Mid. Gospel song, great vcls.
6. *(3:56) Mid. INSTRUMENTAL. Easy funky glide.
7. (4:14) Mid. Spiritual, easy-going mellow funk w/ GREAT solos.
8. *(3:36) Mid. Mean, funky, gritty - groovin’ and rockin’.
9. (4:22) Mid. Serious rockin’, jazzy funky groover.
10. *(3:23) Mid. Bass, percussion, fingersnaps, back vcls.
