Motema, 2014 Reviewed by Trish Morgan 01-25-2015

Michael Carver is a drummer who has taught some of the greatest jazz drummers in his time teaching at the New School University. He is joined here by Yayoi Ikawa on piano, Jansen Cinco on bass, and Keith Loftis (tenor sax). Terrific straight ahead jazz. No FCCs
Best Tracks: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8

1 So What 9:03 - Up-tempo. Loose open interpretation of Miles Davis standard, eveyone solos.
2 Sayonara Blues 4:56 - Mid-tempo, swings, featuring trilling riffs on the sax
3 In Walked Bud 4:56 - Fast, insistent, and fun
4 Same Shame 8:36 - Starts quietly. Somewhat sad and at moments atonal; wanders
5 Night in Tunisia 7:26 - Uptempo, great drum and sax work; highly enjoyable; false end
6 You Go To My Head 6:43 - Slow, dreamy; a late night slow dance of a song
7 You Stepped Out of a Dream 5:30 - Mid-tempo; questing and seeking; sax dominates early, balanced by great piano solo
8 Autumn Leaves 8:01 - Slow to mid-tempo. Great interplay between band
