SMOOTH JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS
Smooth instrumentals (and a few vocals) with R&B influences; much in the style of George Benson in the 70s. Stone’s electric, hollow-body guitar is accompanied by bass, drums, and synthesized winds, horns, and/or strings on various tracks. Green is a good player, but it’s hard to imagine this music getting much play on KZSU (even with our eclectic playlist).
No FCC issues.
1 Mid-tempo. Quick showy fingerboard work. Synth’d horns & strings. Maybe ½ * (4:15)
2 Mid-tempo. The worst sort of elevator music with a slightly disco beat. (4:58)
3 Stone sings an R&B love song. Synth’d winds this time. (4:03)
4 Mid-tempo. Bright sound; easy melody; a bit of Latin percussion; synth’d horns. (4:54)
5 Mid-tempo. An original, but sounds like a Muzak cover of a pop song. (4:23)
6 * Mid-fast. Still pretty lite fare, but not as Muzak as the rest. Good guitar; jazzy melody. Syncopated Latin perc is good. Synth is less overdone. Play this one, if any. (3:55)
7 Mid-tempo. The smoothest of smooth. Like being in the grocery freezer aisle. (4:31)
8 Mid-fast. Guitar is upbeat & happy; synth is flute, vibes & strings. (4:19)
9 Mid-tempo. Lite weight R&B pop with Stone’s vocals. Ridiculous lyrics. (4:19)
10 Mid-tempo. Sounds like Musak cover of what might once have been a disco hit. (4:39)
11 Mid-tempo. Third vocal piece is the best of them: a dead ringer for George Benson. We’re finally freed of any disco influence. (5:02)
