Utterly delightful, charming & pleasing CD.Should appeal to your
ears no matter what your musical tastes are. A tribute to Django Reinhardt &Stephane Grapelli - creators of “hot jazz.” with lilting swing as their signature. Reinhardt was one of the most influential jazz musicians to come out of Europe.
Hank Marvin was lead guitarist for The Shadows that backed Cliff Richards. Marvin influenced many musicians from Led Zep’s Jimmy Page to Pink Floyd’s Brian May, Eric Clapton & Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler.
In this album Hank Marvin is on guitar, Munzio Mondia on accordion, Gary Taylor on rhythm guitarwith Peter Jeavons, Robbie Pisano and Matts Wills on bass.
All tracks are instrumental. Play any track. All are utterly delightful & pleasing.
1. Fast. Swingy. A classic Reinhardt melody. He composed it.
2. Fast. Delightful. Will put a spring in your step & a zing in your life.
3. Striking opening. Fantastic, swing-y rhythm. Playful riff b/w guitar & accordian
4. “After You’Ve Gone” is a 1918 classic song played by so many. Here it gets the “hot jazz” Reinhardt treatment.
5. Originally recorded in 1947 by Rheinhardt & Grapelli. Slow & beautiful melody.
6. Honeysuckle Rose is a 1929 Fats Waller composition.Classic. Superb melody.
7. Recorded in 1946 by Reinhardt. Joyful. Upbeat.
8. Fun. Upbeat. Accordian shines.
9. Tommy Tompkins composed this peppy tune. Briefly, I was reminded ofChattanooga Choo Choo - some familiar riffs there perhaps?
10. Time slows down in this pleasant melody.
11. “Swing Guitars” is a famous composition by Reinhardt/Grapelli. Will put a zip in your life. Mood altering stuff.
12. A dazzling number composed by Reinhardt/Grapelli. Accordian shines. Lot of vim & vigor & zip in this track.
13. A 1928 jazz standard composed by Jimmy McHugh & Dorothy Fields. A wonderful, timeless tune.
14. A fantastic Reinhardt composition. Reminds you of 1930s & 1940s of guys& gals in white linen outfits bowling along in a motorcar. Very PG Wodehouse kinda of feeling if you get my drift.
