Blue Mafia “Pray For Rain” Label: Pinecastle Records Joseph Reviewed 2/23/15 Excellent bluegrass and newgrass from Blue Mafia, featuring the husband-wife team of Tony and Dara Wray. Terrific vocals and picking throughout. 1 – (4:05) Moonshiner* Fine mid-tempo rendition of Peter Rowan tune. 2 – (3:11) One Bad Day* Excellent Dara Wray original, dark. 3 – (3:56) Had To Be Crippled* Soft & slow bluegrass gospel, lovely. 4 – (2:34) Consider It Goodbye* Nice mid breakup song, another Dara original. 5 – (3:18) Born To Be With You* Up-tempo love song, excellent vocals & playing. 6 – (5:19) He’s In Control* Heartfelt bluegrass gospel, amazing vocals. 7 – (3:14) I Didn’t See It Coming Good weeper about breakup, decent. 8 – (3:53) East Virginia Blues* Spare, slow, moody interpretation of the classic. 9 – (2:17) Backtrail* Original by banjoist Cody Looper, nice. 10 – (3:18) I’m Lonesome Without You* Excellent, punchy Stanley Bros. sound. 11 – (2:29) Pray For Rain* Spare modal feel, good vocals & playing, slow-mid. 12 – (4:02) I’d Like To Be A Train* Fast, amazing banjo playing propels song, wow! 13 – (3:00) All I Ever Loved Was You* Tender slow heartbreak song just lovely. | ||
