Stoneburner - Life Drawing
Label: Neurot Recordings
As anything that Neurot Recordings releases, this will be LOUD and full of crushing riffs. The band hails from hipster capital of the USA (Portland, OR) and delivers a punishing nine-track release. The band style is a nice hybrid of Sludge and Doom with harsh vocals, making it quite oppressive.
Review: Dark Emperor
FCC Clean
Play: 4,5,9, 2
1. (05:38) - Death-metalish opener, nice quality riffs, but just a warm-up (3 out of 5).
2. (10:20) - Hypnotic groove, quite a slow paced song that perfectly mixes Sludge with Doom riffs. (5 out of 5)
3. (01:29) - Meh accoustic tempo changer (1 out of 5)
4. (08:04) - Pummeling heavy southern-inspired riffs. Best song in this release (5 out of 5)
5. (10:36) - Atmospheric Post-Metal, similar to Neurosis. Second best track. (5 out of 5)
6. (01:08) - Another acoustic interlude.... meh. (1 out of 5)
7. (07:36) - Ritualistic drumming slowly grows into an all-out riffing barrage. (4 out of 5)
8. (03:47) - Heavy and sludgy.... and short! One quick stop-shop in this track. (4 out of 5)
9. (17:53) - Slow progressing monolithic piece. Quite moody and Post-Metal-ish, showing that the band might shift in the future in this direction... and they should. (5 out of 5)
