King Khan & BBQ Show! Canada's favorite doo-wop-garage-punk weirdo duo, with Mark Sultan on crazy slam-slam drum kit, and King Khan perhaps weirder still. Jangly sounds, but with krazy hooks, doo-wop tenderness, brassy soul singing... the guys have it all! I love these guys, and this is their first in over five years. (Major FCCs on #5)

(3:09) **** Jangly, breakneck with "bow wow wow wow" doo-wopping bass. Classic KK&BBQ garage-soul, with really sweet, aching moments.
(2:13) **** Bouncy, rough, insistent with Nuggets-esque psychey chord changes, "Illuminations" chanting.
(2:50) ** Relaxed, jangly-- talking about how his sister is going to beat you up. A bit repetitive.
(3:47) *** Pure blue-eyed '60s soul... big-voiced tearjerker a la Percy Sledge. "Bye bye baby" is most of the song, over and over. Pure.
(1:07) [FCCs -- about a million of them fuck x 20]. Insane stupid short song about diarrhoea. Hmm.
(2:52) **** Somewhere between bubblegum and Sonny & the Sunsets... midtempo sunshiney, sounds like the sunny underbelly of VU, somehow. "champion...champion"
(2:45) **** Starts with scream... stompy wonderful bluesy, harsh and rockin, but with a really sweet soul bridge.
(2:11) ***** Doo-wop is back, pure greaser shouter with wonderfully dumb hook "Stranded on the desert, next to an ocean of love" but with more screaming and weirdness... so great.
(3:16) ****************** Yes! Yes! Oh my god, if you're me, this is one of the very best tracks to have ever happened. Starts with incoherent marble-mouthed mumbling, then " crunch crunch ". Stop-and-go weirdness rockingness, slick riffs, then finally a super-hooky chorus where the cannibalism comes clear: "snacking on my baby's bones"... demented, wonderful... just absolutely yes on every possible level.
(2:28) **** Spooky minor breakneck rocker about killing wolfman-- brisk and moody, great--
(2:35) *** Heavy jangly stomper, more of the same, but the same is so good.
(2:30) Guitar and screaming, weird and loopy punky, gets in lockgroove at end. Super raw and punky.
