Margy Kahn Reviewed 2015-04-25 | ||
Niyaz: The Fourth Light – promoted as being inspired by Rabbia Al Basri, 8th century Sufi mystic and poet; classic Iranian female vocals sung over heavy electronic beat; no songs stand out; if you like Iranian music crossed with electro-drumbeats and reverb, this may be for you; FCC clean 1-Sabza ba naz (5:07) Afghan love song with western sounding electronic beat; lots of overdubbing, reverb 2-- Tam-e Eshq (5:28) vocal with santour; heavy electronic beat 3-- Eyvallah Shahim (5:50) Turkish Alevi song with nice instrumental solo midway where we get a break from that ubiquitous electronic beat 4—Yek Nazar (3:44) Faster beat; based on a Khorasani folk song 5 –Man Haramam (5:10) santour plus same vocalist; modern composed song 6—Aurat (4:16) based on Urdu poem; very repetitive 7—Khuda Bowad Yaret (5:14) Afghan song; very clearly sung and recorded lyrics over heavy beat 8—Shir Ali Mardan (5:57) electronic overkill almost obscures Bakhtiari origins of song 9—Marg-e Man (5:31) modern composed song |
