Pointless Satisfaction

Album Review
Reviewed 2015-05-02
– General Description: Is Bley imitating the singer Sade Adu? Yes. Daughter of jazz pianist Paul Bley, she's okay at it. Jazz-Noir sax playing by Stuart Mathewman behind baby girl smoldering vocals are fine for a song or two – then it all becomes monotonous for this reviewer. Stylized to a "T" but that's what they are going for. Success!
– FCC Compliant: YES
– Recommended Tracks: 1, 10, 11
– Track Reviews:
1. ***(5:13) Pointless Satisfaction - moderate; sax intro sets up the vocal line nicely
2. (4:37) Coldest Kind Of Heart - slow; very wobbly electric keyboard intro
3. (4:05) I Love (Loving You) - smooth walking bass; range of song is beyond the singer for this breathy delivery style
4. (4:07) Just Because - slow and dreamy
5. (4:45) Save It - mildy swinging; staggered tonal changes but very similar to track 3
6. (4:15) When It Counts - breathy sax opens over relaxed beat
7. (4:17) Sailor - swinging with walking bass; more fun with muted sax solo
8. (4:11) In Many Ways - moody and mellow; starts out with interesting lyrics, then becomes ordinary 'cause we all need love, ya know?
9. (2:50) Past Yet Untold - another relaxed, late night song that blends into the background
10. ***(3:04) You're Everything - simple child-like opening with the clarinet; vocals are clearer
11. ***(4:06) No One Knows - sexy arrangement is fun, wailing sax, playful guitar and trumpet
12. (4:45) Take It From My Eyes - moderately slow spy music
