Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2015-06-22 | ||
From London: epic power pop, drinking from the well of 70's Stranglers, Knack. Guys playing guitar bass drums and a touch of 70's new wave punk organ. But it's centered on the vocals: melody driven, subtle harmonies, songs feel like epic drunken pub singalongs. Appropriate that the cd starts w a snippet of one. The English'ness of such singing styles really shines through (and maybe thats what typified so much early English punk?). Great stuff fits w a garage set or an indie rock too. 1) (0:23) low fi pub singing 2)* (3:09) epic upbeat power pop, catchy, only needs handclaps 3)* (2:04) pounding driving feel 4) (3:28) slower swingy, chance to take a breath 5) (4:10) slower, a love song? 6) (3:00) upbeat organ driven goes halftime swing in middle then picks up again 7) FCC (great forlorn love song with one Fuck, safe harbor) 8) (4:26) another waltz but dark and swingy 9)* (2:28) upbeat bouncing in your seat! 10) (2:57) swingy bouncy 11)* (4:59) chill organ to start then a big plodding feel a huge epic soaring vocal melody, picks up rockin in middle briefly, then back and forth 12) (3:10) a simple pretty song wo drums 13) (3:27) midpaced strummy simple 3 chord, very English feeling |
