Awesome dreamy lo-fi indie pop.
From bandcamp page: “thank you for your ears. ‘new alhambra’ is an end times prophecy. we hope that it helps you to reflect on your life as we all prepare for the inevitable judgement of the world.”
…Now my thoughts: this is a (very short but) really great album. Strange fuzzy samples tie each song together, with biblical/apocalyptic references that infuse the normal heartache stuff with a uniquely f**ed up apathetic humor. It’s got excellent pop hooks and melodies, everything just works. FCC on 9.!
I like 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9* (FCC)
RIYL Girls, Magnetic Fields, Crocodiles, Summer Camp, Ariel Pink?, early Cloud Nothings
1. (2:15) mid. dreamy guitar and fuzzy vocals, biblical references .. noise…
2. *(2:47) mid. finger snaps, catchy yet simple nostalgic picking, strings. “I will go to sleep still believing.” more dreamy goodness
3. *(3:35) med-slow. echoey keys in a haze of reverb, then gentle beat. “just want you on my mind/when I’m feeling useless, barely getting by.”
4. *(2:07) med-slow. strummy, synthy, maracas!, beachy
5. (1:56) slow. Jesus and Mary Chain beat, tambourine, light synths. “Jesus died on the cross/so I could quit my job.”
6. *(2:02) med-fast. more upbeat/sunny/summery, weird sample @ end as usual
7. *(1:52) med-slow. scratchy riff, distorted desolate watery vocals and cymbals, lonely synth
8. (2:13) mid. cool laid-back beat, catchy watery vox again, strings come out of nowhere and add emotion w/ wild guitar. ends with rainy sound.
9. *FCC (f***) (1:29) med-slow. acoustic! not fuzzy! honest, short and sweet. “if you try I will try/if we f** up, it’s all right.”
