DJ Aporia Reviewed 2015-12-08 | ||
Surfy dreamy guitar pop. No FCCs. RIYL Captured Tracks 1. (3:18) Anymore - Solid surf track. Jangly guitars, lyrics reminiscent of Beach Fossils. 2:20 and onward builds in more guitar distortion. Two sets of vocals layered over each other at the end. *2. (3:30) Zen A - Much more guitar-driven. Clear post-punk influences, strong drumming. Propulsive, subtle bassline comes in around 1:20. Lots of cool guitar fills and variations throughout. Melancholy, resonant concluding guitar line at the end. Gorgeous. *3. (3:32) Late Risers - Everything about this reminds me of Gemini-era Wild Nothing. Vocals are more prominent here. Jangly guitars again. Concludes with a very C86 guitar outro. *4. (3:53) Never Be the Same - Chiming guitars. Strong DIIV vibes. Wistful vocals which tend to repeat the song title. More dream pop than the rest of the EP. The last one-third of the song is absolutely gorgeous, masterfully crafts together insistent, reverbed-out guitars and vocals drifting lightly beneath the reverb, slowly waning in urgency. |
