In the Process Reviewed 2016-06-03 | ||
Folk-influenced indie rock with a distinct emotional vulnerability to it, lauded by journalistic entities like Pitchfork and Consequence of Sound. The female vocalist has a raw, trembling voice similar to Angel Olsen or Sharon Van Etten, as the album seems to be something of a therapeutic release for her. Incorporates both acoustic, folksy instruments and gorgeous, shiny, sad electric guitar riffs. Very sad, very beautiful. RIYL: Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Frankie Cosmos, Mitski, Waxahatchee No FCC’s 1.**Too Small for Eyes (5:47) – sad, sheepish mandolin folk, textured with piano and string instruments as song progresses 2.*It Hurts Until It Doesn’t (5:34) – picks up pace, wistful indie rock for late summer 3.**Copper Mines (3:57) –picks up a little more energy, some interesting guitar riffs, vocalist expresses some tension and frustration 4.*Nesting Behavior (6:17) – quiet, sad, pretty lullaby, picks up some string instruments briefly. She sounds on the verge of crying. 5. ***Lockjaw(5:19) – catchy guitar riffs, gets slightly louder, vocalist seems to be gaining power. Everything is still pretty languid and sad, though. 6.**Blood-Letting (5:37) – haunting melody, seems to sway when guitars and drums pick up 7.*Burden of Proof (3:22) – slow and echoey yet tense and irritated 8. ***Hold Your Own Hand (6:54) – starts out slow and sad, picks up with intricate shimmers of guitar riffs and reverb, ending this depressing album on a hopeful note |
