Very high quality live recording of this instrumental Tokyo trio that formed in 1999; translated, their name is “Y2K bug.” With a rock 'n' roll power trio setup (guitarist, bassist, drummer), Nisennmondai make what's essentially throbbing, ascetic, hypnotizing, driving techno. This is one continuous 34 minute performance, with 100% seamless transitions between segments. The music crests and falls at exactly the right times, maintains suspense as well as Hitchcock ever did, and never reaches a peak or gets tiring. It's mechanically funky to the extreme. Not just good, not just great, this is music that explodes presumptions about what a rock band can do. You can easily broadcast excerpts of this on your show but, at least in my experience, it's nigh impossible to stop listening once it's playing. WOW!!! No words, no FCCs.
