Genre: found sound, techno, experimental, delicates, cold wash From their mother: “You’re going to make a whole album out of…washing machine…noises? I love you darling, but sounds a bit boring, doesn’t it?” From their thesis advisor: “Ah, yes yes I see. A neo-Marxist, post-Lacanian, post-TidePod deconstruction of mass-produced objects in the domestic space. I only have one question: what is a washing machine?” From me: “PLAY THIS ALBUM IT’S BONKERS INSANE MAYBE I JUST HAVE A THING FOR FOUND SOUND + ELECTRONICS BUT HOLY MOLY THIS IS COOL.” Others: Ninos du Brasil, Maytag, LG, Man Forever, Whirlpool, Autechre (0:00-1:10) Laundry cycle commences. Splish splosh (1:10-6:25) ***** Sloshy mad metallic drum circle. AMAZING (6:25-14:45) Whirring + crystalline blips. Ambient passage. R2D2 speaks to washer in electroacoustic whispers. Morphs into a chill little beat. (14:45-20:30) *** Distant thumping. Cool syncopated groove with watery accents. Eerie ambient interlude before returning to the polyrhythmic stomp. (20:30-26:40) **** Stark stuttering experiment. Really cool, anguished squeaky noises. Whoa what in the world…..like a dj chopping a washing machine lid….gets trippy…psychedelic. Love this section. (26:40-30:36) Sometimes you gotta just finish your load of laundry. (30:36-38:07) ***** Some funky fresh percussion. Like, Tide Ultra® fresh.
