San Benito

Moro is an Argentinian producer, and this is his first release for the internationally run online label NON, “a collective of African artists, and of the diaspora, using sound as their primary media, to articulate the visible and invisible structures that create binaries in society, and in turn distribute power.” Moro calls the music on this EP “ramba” and describes it as an attempt to reassert the diasporic roots of tango. This is seriously heavy, relentless, trunk-rattling stuff. The sounds are cuttingly crisp, teetering somewhere on the razor's edge of the naturalistic and the harshly mechanical. Lots and lots of syncopation. This is probably several years ahead of mainstream dance music (both politically and aesthetically), but I'm really looking forward to hearing more like this. 1. (3:29)—Medium-slow to fast. Intense water splash noises and mechanical bird sounds.

3. (5:16)—Medium-fast, rolling. Everything sounds really, really sharp. Chopped up, quasi-neoclassical ending.
4. (3:29)—Medium-slow. Harsh tidal-wave noise, harp synths, snippets of radio transmission? Comparatively easygoing, sort of.
5. (4:57)—Very, very slow then mid-tempo. Soft organ, gasping noises, aircraft sounds. Gets very abrasive halfway in. Ends with peaceful water sounds.
