This album wants to appeal to classical/experimental fans: the artist thinks of herself as a contemporary/alternative chamber music composer who utilizes piano, strings and light electronics. Some tracks are all acoustic, while others utilize looping/delay techniques. There is a tendency for these “mood” or “atmosphere” pieces to resemble “space music” of the 1990s and Minimalism (simple harmonies, rhythms and patterns, protracted repetition of figures, and often a pulsing, hypnotic effect). Besides the “romantic” allure or aura, the composer introduces pentatonic (five-note) scales and “exotic” harmonies into the “ostinato” (continued repeated musical phrase or rhythm) mix. The composer notes: “Music for piano, strings, and electronics written while facing white walls on the Westside.”
