Amazing trio with a Norwegian (Olav), Swedish (Anders), and Shetland (Kevin) fiddler expertly playing authentic Scandinavian fiddles replete with drones and sympathetic strings; the three weave their notes seamlessly presenting a river of sound with many currents and eddies among the strict beats (if you've ever seen Scandinavian folk dance, it moves like clockwork)
NO FCC's (all instrumental); Favorite tracks – 2, 3, 5, 6, 9
1-Talons Trip to Thompson Island (3:19) – composed by Kevin; Celtic sound with Nordic drone
**2- Flinken (5:47) – polska from 19th century Swedish composer – lovely mournful sliding sound opens delicate dance figures; all Nordic here; fantastic trill-type sound midway
*3-Hjalteren (4:16) – lighter and airier than #2; composed by Olav
4- The Hen Hunt (2:44) – hunting for hens after a great storm in Orkney wiped out 250k chickens in 1953 – straight ahead dance rhythm
**5-Deliverance (4:46) – starts with pizzicato; composed by Olav to celebrate the end of winter and reappearance of the sun; pretty counterpoint with bow and pizzicato
*6-Djavulspolskan (5:00) – starts with trill and goes into rocking beat composed by 19th Century Swedish composer; fast and pretty; then slower with scale progressions; impressive
7 – In the Lounge (4:34) – dedicated to legendary pub by the same name in Shetland; starts with solo fiddle figure; gathers speed; goes in circles a bit
8- Halls Lilla Vals (4:13) – lovely little turning waltz from Swedish fiddler who lived mid-19th to mid-20th century
*9-Da Scallowa Losses/Lorna's Reel (3:42) – medley of to Shetland reels; fast; a little wild in the middle
10-Nodaret (4:42) - “The Year of Sorrow” – lower pitched; slightly modal or minor; still moves
