The deep, etherial, funky, synthy grooves here transport you to new universes where you bob your head and dance. From the Detroit house scene, Omar S takes long, instrumental tracks to new heights. I’m getting the vibe of a dark, slightly musty club where you have all the space you could need on the dance floor, and it’s showtime.

RIYL Paul Oakenfold, John FM
FCC on track 4
Recommended tracks: 2, 5, 7, 11

1. (5:30) Gentle, repetitive beat adds hi-hat about 1:30 in. Gets funky halfway, then leads you into a dream of an instrumental groove.
2. (4:51) Spacey instrumental dance into another dimension with a bright keyboard riff that repeats on and on.
3. (7:03) 90s-style hi-hat 4-on-the-floor beat gets you riled, then lightens up into muffled vocals and a bright flute line.
4. (7:27) FCCs!!! Hand-drumming plus twinkling and deep synth complement Rehdogg-esque vocals on the daily struggle.
5. (6:01) Don’t say this track name on air! Extra-funky instrumental synth swirls around and around in circles over and over.
6. (6:09) A voyage to Detroit, 1988, the height of the house, backed by a funky groove and reminiscing spoken-word lyrics.
7. (7:28) Synthy, clappy instrumental mind-mush melting into an alien spaceship ride.
8. (5:20) 80s-style synths with a video-game, or perhaps “Ferris Bueller,” theme song feel. Builds into a unique solo melody, less repetitive than other instrumental tracks.
9. (7:35) Uptempo hi-hat beat with high-pitched synths wobbling over it.
10. (6:13) Soulful female vox backed up by a piano and hi-hat.
11. (9:53) Drumroll, please! to start. John FM working his magic on a special lady in the club. Backed up by a piano line and a clicking beat.
