JAZZ: EAST MEETS WEST
Compelling ensemble jazz: somewhat programmatic & spiritual. Lineup is guitar, tenor sax, trumpet, piano, bass & drums, plus table on tracks 2,3,4. All compositions are by Moulder.
All instrumental. No FCC issues.
1 ** Mid to fast. Stirring & uplifting. Solos by trumpet, sax, trumpet, elec guitar. (7:05)
A suite. Each track flows into the next, though each could be played separately.
2 ** Mid-fast with lightning fast guitar runs. Acoustic electric guitar & tabla reminiscent of John McLaughlin’s Shakti group in the 1970s. Sax joins near the end. (6:31)
3 Mid-slow to fast. Led by sax: gentle at first, then loud, powerful. (5:17)
4 * Slower. Mellow acoustic guitar, piano, bass. Horns enter with interwoven, pretty, pastoral themes. Tablas return for a gentle finish. (2:15)
5 Mid-tempo. Dubbed guitar tracks. Pretty. Optional intro to track #6. (2:01)
6 Very slow. Gentle, peaceful, pastoral. Muted trumpet opens with contemplative theme. Guitar joins in second part. Quiet piano, bass, drums. (6:05)
7 ** Slow. Sad, elegy. Intertwined sax & trumpet; then gorgeous solo trumpet, then piano, bass & drums; then trumpet takes us out. (6:24)
8 *** Fast, high energy jazz-rock fusion. Electric guitar shredding recalls Jeff Beck’s fusion period. Add superb sax, bass & drum solos. End with slow, pretty trumpet. (10:24)
9 * Mid-tempo. Good ensemble playing. Worth hearing, but pales next to #1 & #8. (7:30)
