Sixth solo album from the former superstar front man of the English band the KINKS. This album is quirky and fun, but also a bit stilted and conflicting as times. Take #4 for example. I like the early Bowie sound, but find the lyrics a tad over the top. Ray Davies is a legend, but I don’t think that this album represents his best work. It seems to me that he may just be trying too hard to truly be part of the Americana scene. Best: 2, 4, 9, 11, 13.

1. med – gentle rock & roll, not bad, not exceptional
2. slow – old David Bowie vibe, talk at both ends of song
3. med – awesome lyrics, mediocre song
4. slow – dreamy acoustic song with female singer as well
5.
6. med – live blues vibe
7. slow – spoken word, reminds me of Donovan
8. med – sounds like a comfortable musical style for Ray (ie routine, easy, boring…)
9. med – unique sound on album, sounds almost like protest music
10. slow – mostly spoken word
11. slow – bluesy Americana sound, **best song on album
12. slow/med – dreamy sounding song
