JAZZ: PIANO TRIO

From the NYC jazz scene, pianist Jeremy Bacon presents his debut album as leader of a piano-bass-drums trio. The set includes two original compositions (tracks 1 & 7) by Bacon, some old pop songs, and covers of jazz masters.

No FCC issues.

1 Varied tempo. Mellow, late night feel. Improvisational. Bass solo, then piano lead. (4:47)
2 * Fast. Tricky bebop piece by Dizzy Gillespie. Done with verve and high energy. (3:25)
3 ** Varied tempo. Pretty Cole Porter love song. Outstanding drumming. (4:59)
4 Fast. Harold Arlen / Johnny Mercer tune. High energy but a bit of overkill. (5:19)
5 * Mid-tempo. Light-hearted and bouncy. Nice bass solo. Fun song. (4:28)
6 * Fast. Complex standard by bebop pianist Tadd Dameron. Impressively done. (4:49)
7 Slow improv intro, then mid-fast and swinging. Ok, but a bit heavy handed. (6:21)
8 * Fast. Lesser known Gershwin tune. Showy piano with nice accompaniment. (4:13)
9 ** Mid-tempo. Thoughtful reading of an oft-covered Bill Evans composition. (4:51)
