LARGE ENSEMBLE JAZZ

Led by trumpeter Brandon Lee and trombonists Willie Applewhite & James Burton, this “tentet” comprises seven horns plus a piano-bass-drums rhythm section. The guest soprano sax on tracks 5 and 8 makes eleven. The set is swingin’ straight-forward jazz.

No FCC issues.

1 * Mid-fast. Bright & cheerful. Solos by trombone, alto sax, acoustic bass. (4:17)
2 Mid-slow. Theme on flute. Piano-bass-drums bridge. Tenor sax & trumpet solos. (7:01)
3 Mid-slow to slow. Billy Strayhorn classic. Solos by trombone and baritone sax. (6:16)
4 * Mid-tempo intro then fast. Catchy 1940s tune. Solos by piano, trombone, drums. (3:22)
5 * Mid-tempo with an easy-going samba sway. Solos by trumpet & soprano sax. (7:13)
6 * Mid-fast. Driving & spirited. Solos by (especially good) tenor sax & piano. (3:35)
7 Slow. Jimmy Van Heusen ballad led mostly by warm trombone. Trumpet solo too. (6:33)
8 Mid-tempo. Odd Stevie Wonder medley. Soprano sax, tenor sax, trumpet solos. (5:16)
9 Mid-fast. Big-band showpiece. Solos all around. (8:38)
